Dear Friends, peace be with you!
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about and to contemplate the Divine House Guest of Souls. We are praying that it will bear good fruit in your soul!
For our first blog entry, we decided that discussing the idea of Our Lord as the Traveling Savior, would be a good place to start. In the Eucharistic Divine House Guest prayer, the Lord describes Himself as, “wearied by traveling, searching for souls, doing the work of salvation and sanctification.” Additionally,
when the Lord described the image which was to be made (see The Image) He asked to be shown as, “a weary traveler who has gone in search for those who would understand Him."
So, how is He traveling? What does that even mean? We look to Scripture and of course, we immediately see that the Lord is constantly traveling! Interestingly, He continues traveling after His Resurrection. We read that He met two of His disciples on the road to Emmaus, Luke 24:13. He enters into conversation with them and eventually explains all of Scripture regarding the Son of Man and the events they have witnessed! When it seems that He might continue on past their destination, they ask
Him to stay with them since their hearts are on fire! And He does, and they are then able to recognize Him in the breaking of the bread.
Now, this is my uneducated interpretation, but I’ve come to believe that this is the opening scene for us today, at Holy Mass. Our Lord is most present to us at Mass. Our Eucharistic King desires that we would recognize Him in the breaking of the bread, just as the two disciples did on the road to Emmaus. At Holy Mass Our Lord is ‘traveling’ if you will, to be received by us interiorly, in the Blessed Sacrament. Since
Our Good God desires to be so close to us in this Sacrament, we are able then to understand His story, His words, which He is always sharing. We are able to spend time with Him in unison, capturing this precious time, and since our hearts are on fire, we won’t want Him to go on past us!
After Mass, after we have spent time in worship, serving Him as the Divine House Guest of our Soul, we then carry Him out into the world. We become His tabernacles, and He travels with us! But, of course, we know that Our Lord’s work is not done, not until He makes His enemies His footstool. So, He is still working as the Good Shepherd, going out in search of His lost sheep, calling them by name, calling them to His Divine Sacrament of Love. Time and time again, He calls, and He knocks, and many souls refuse to listen, to answer the Shepherd, in heartbreaking fashion we prefer all else.
O my God, I am heartily sorry for ever having offended You!
Begin now, to welcome this Traveling Savior intentionally and to offer Him rest, refreshment, silence and delight, in your interior house. Become one who would understand Him.
‘O Divine House Guest, I know that you are tired by sin, wearied by travelling, searching for souls, doing the work of salvation and sanctification. Come and rest a while here. You will find an attentive host.’
